Leo Quinn, CEO, QinetiQ
As a result of investment and concerted efforts to drive towards excellence in project management, QinetiQ was awarded Corporate Accreditation with APM toward the end of 2012. Based on the Five Dimensions of Professionalism, this represents a first-class result, recognising the dedicated effort from across the project management community, and demonstrating to our customers, suppliers and employees that we are committed to the highest standards of project management and professional development.
One of our key areas of focus has been the continued development of QinetiQ’s overall project management capability; the cornerstone of this has been the creation of the Project Managers Career Development Framework, fully aligned to the Association of Project Managers (APM) standards and qualifications, and benchmarked against industry best practices.
So far this year, over 80 project managers have successfully achieved the APMP qualification, 30 project support staff have also successfully achieved the PM Introductory Certificate, and several senior project managers have recently completed the APM Practitioner Qualification assessment process. In line with our continued focus on growing our people and capability, we are now taking this a step further, investing in a Project Management Academy – a centre of excellence for the development of careers and competence for the entire project management community.
QinetiQ has experienced a breakthrough in customer satisfaction performance improvement, moving from 17th place to 3rd in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) key supplier ranking. Having skilled and motivated project managers is key to this improvement and the Academy reinforces our commitment to excellence in this field. It’s a tangible demonstration of how we ensure that QinetiQ continues to embody ‘People who know how’.
